KLAWOCK - Are you tired of weight-loss diets that don't work? Are you a woman who wants to learn about a fun, effective way to improve your health and wellness, without being a slave to the scale? Then the WISE At Every Size program may be for you.
The SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium (SEARHC) WISEWOMAN program is sponsoring WISE At Every Size classes for women on six Saturdays starting in January. The classes take place at the SEARHC Alicia Roberts Medical Center in Klawock, and they will be from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Jan. 17, 24, 31, Feb. 7, 14 and 21. The classes will be led by SEARHC Registered Dietitian Janai Meyer and Community Wellness Advocate June May.
WISE At Every Size is a non-dieting approach to health and wellness. The classes are open to all adult women and they focus on listening to your body's messages of hunger and fullness, finding ways to get joyful movement and having a positive body image. Research has shown that this non-diet approach can reduce blood pressure, cholesterol and blood glucose readings. Past participants also have improved their fitness levels, as measured by a step test done at the start and end of the series of classes. Women who complete the program requirements earn a $50 gift certificate.
For more information about the WISE At Every Size program and Prince of Wales Island classes, contact June May at 755-4959 or by e-mail at email@example.com. The registration deadline is Jan. 5.
In addition to the Prince of Wales Island classes, WISE At Every Size will be taught in the communities of Sitka, Juneau, Klukwan, Haines and Kake starting in January.
