Education! That's what everything boils down to for any civil and social construction. A substantive, unbiased exchange of information that increases awareness would not enable self-serving profit-maximizers to delude a tyrannizing majority into voting against healthcare for all, when we need curtail the spread of pandemics-from AIDS to Swine Flu-when "all" are susceptible. An unbiased, non-specifically sequenced liberal education (as of that at the elementary, primary and secondary "brain partitioning" years) is essential for a democratic-republic to function properly.
To the contrary, all we need witness is the economic fiasco wrought by supply-sided Reaganomics unbridling the profit-maximizing greed that derailed our market-driven capital good and resource distribution method with environmental destruction, or how its lop-sided apportioning has infected our judicial and electoral leadership enough to usurp Constitutionally enumerated local jurisdiction of gun laws, as in D.C., and possibly Chicago. A government's raison d'etre is to bestow justice among its adherents. In a democratic republic, that anticipates a solid intellectual foundation wherein the populace can make reasoned choices, the core of which is a liberal education.
