JUNEAU - Registration is now underway for the 2010 Winter Cabaret Workshop with jazz pianist Barney McClure. Juneau Jazz & Classics is once again hosting McClure, a world-class jazz pianist, teacher and accompanist extraordinaire.
The five-day cabaret workshop will be held Monday, Feb. 1 through Friday, Feb. 5 at the Juneau Arts & Culture Center. The workshops are structured to work with singers to teach how to present a vocal music piece in a successful and fun way.
Each singer will learn interpretation, phrasing, microphone techniques and bandstand protocol in a relaxed and supportive atmosphere. Barney is known for matching singers with the song they were born to sing.
The workshop is $125 for adults or $85 for students. The fee includes one private half-hour session with Barney McClure. Space is limited. To register, go to http://www.jazzandclassics.org/, or send request to info@jazzandclassics.org. Workshop participants will hold a "Singin' in the Rain" performance on Saturday, Feb. 6 at 8 p.m.
