Hit the JACC Putt is an annual fundraising event supporting the operations of the Juneau Arts and Culture Center. It opens on Wednesday and will be visited by numerous school groups. It will be open daily noon to 9 p.m. through Winter Break, closing early on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, and will be closed on Christmas. Tickets to golf are $5 at the door, or may be purchased on line or at the bookstores and the JACC. Parties of up to 15 are $50 and get a table (a "party bunker") for their group. The course is available for private parties for $110/hour, arranged by calling the JACC at 586-2787.
The theme for this year's golf holes is "Movies" and artists have been busily preparing for "Batman," "Despicable Me," "Alice in Wonderland," "Sound of Music," and the "Wizard of Oz" and several other family favorites. Golfers vote for their favorite holes, and a prize is awarded.
In keeping with the theme, there will be a special event on Saturday night, Dec. 28, from 8-11 p.m.: "Red Carpet on the Greens: The Academy Awards" Golfers are invited to come as their favorite movie star (or incognito, in high-fashion sunglasses) to this 21 or older event sponsored in part by Alaskan Brewing Company. The "Academy Award" for Best Hole will be awarded at this event.
On Sunday afternoon from 3-4:30 p.m., it will be a "Superhero Party" and golfers of all ages are invited to come dressed as their favorite hero. There will be face-painting and hot chocolate for all.
Executive Director Nancy DeCherney describes this event as "perfect for whole families, all ages, from the littlest to the oldest." She notes that, "Everyone is equally bad at mini-golf, so everyone has fun. It is especially good for big groups, office parties, that sort of thing, where maybe not everyone knows each other well, but everyone can have a nice time together. Plus you don't have to clean your house!"
