The Memorial Concert is on Tuesday, Dec. 8 at 7 p.m. at Kayhi Auditorium, and features Windjammers, Soundwaves, Discovery, and Kayhi bands. Donations at the door support the Sam Pitcher Memorial Fund for Scholarships for young musicians to attend summer music programs.
Applications are now available for the Sam Pitcher Music Scholarship for young musicians. This scholarship was established to honor the memory of Seming "Sam" Pitcher, a gifted young man who was active in the various music programs available in Ketchikan, active in several groups and ensembles, and who played an impressive number of instruments. Awards of up to $1,000 will be provided to a Ketchikan youth(s) in grades 7-12 for use at a summer music program. Awards will be based on the applicant's musical ability, goals, and motivation. Get an application online at http://www.ketchikanarts.org/, from McPherson's Music, or stop by the Arts Council at 330 Main Street. Talk to your music teacher about this amazing opportunity. The deadline for applications is January 1, 2010.
