Poetry OmniBus contest opens Dec. 1

JUNEAU - Poetry OmniBus, in cooperation with the Juneau Arts & Humanities Council and Capital Transit, is looking for this year's fresh and surprising poems from Juneau locals.

Poems must be original works written by Juneau residents, on any topic, in 10 lines or less, and must be suitable for a general audience. They can be submitted in either the youth (fifth grade through high school) or adult categories. The submission period opens December 1, 2009 and closes on January 15, 2010.

Poems will be selected by a panel of poets including current Alaska State Laureate Nancy Lord, former Alaska State Laureate Richard Dauenhauer, and published poets Emily Wall and Jenifer Rae Vernon. Winning poets will be invited to read their submissions at a formal poetry reading on March 13, 2010, at the downtown public library.
