The Richard C. Pugh Achievement Award honors dentists who score in the top 3 percent of the 2006-07 American Board of Pediatric Dentristry qualifying examination. Dr. Hort returned to SEARHC in August 2007 after completing a residency program in pediatric dentistry at the Alaska Native Medical Center in Anchorage, which was administered by Lutheran Medical Center of Brooklyn, N.Y. She started work as a general dentist with the SEARHC Juneau Medical Center in August 2000, but took a leave of absence in May 2005 so she could receive the specialized training in pediatric dentistry.
Dr. Kim Hort
Dr. Hort earned her Doctor of Dental Medicine from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine in Philadelphia. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Albright College of Reading, Pa. Dr. Hort is a Candidate to earn board certification from the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. She already has passed the written qualifying exam - which is why she will receive the Richard C. Pugh Achievement Award - and she's scheduled to take the the oral clinical examination that completes the application in March 2008. When she passes the oral exam, she will be granted Diplomate status by the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry.
Dr. Hort is SEARHC's first permanent pediatric dentist based in Juneau, and she provides pediatric dental services for children younger than 18 years old who are enrolled in the State of Alaska's Denali KidCare program and Medicaid. Denali KidCare is a state program that provides health insurance and access to health care for Alaska resident children younger than 18 of working and non-working parents, and for expecting mothers who meet income guidelines. SEARHC partners with the Denali KidCare program to provide pediatric dental services around the region.
