Governor's regional office in Wasilla to close Nov. 30
As part of an ongoing effort to find efficiencies in state government, Governor Sarah Palin announced Tuesday, Nov. 13, after consulting local mayors and community leaders, the regional office in Wasilla will close effective Friday, Nov. 30.

The office, located in the Westside Center on the Parks Highway, was opened during the Murkowski administration, but it was not used enough to justify keeping it open.

Foot traffic in the office has often been limited to one or two visitors per day and it rarely exceeded 10 or 12 over the course of the average week.

Coupled with Mat-Su's close proximity to the governor's Anchorage office, the closure of the Wasilla office is the only reasonable course of action.

"While I recognize the value of maintaining a presence in the state's fastest growing community, keeping that office open is not a wise use of state money," Governor Palin said.

"We will keep the local phone number and my staff in Anchorage, which includes Mat-Su residents, will be on hand to answer questions and help constituents with their concerns. In fact, this consolidation and increased efficiency should help us respond to the inquiries of Valley residents more efficiently."

Mat-Su Valley residents will still be able to call for assistance using the existing phone number: 352-2585.
