John Edward Wilkins Jr., of Juneau, was honored on Veterans Day for his volunteer efforts toward advancing the interests of Alaska's veterans by receiving the 2008 Governor's Veterans Advocacy Award.
Wilkins, a 20-year veteran of the Air Force, served two tours of duty in Vietnam, where he rose to the rank of first sergeant. Since his retirement from active duty, Wilkins has served in many capacities at the state and local levels, devoting his time and talents to helping disabled veterans.
