Army Pvt. Kevin B. Vick and Army National Guard Pvts. Jeremy Harpe and Drew E. Shannon have graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

Vick is the son of Debbe Jackson of Juneau.

Harpe is the grandson of Sherman and Ann Strain of Sitka and is a 2006 graduate of Pacific High School in Sitka.

Shannon is the son of Donald Shannon of Ketchikan, and brother of Dustin Shannon of Anchorage. He is a 2006 graduate of Tri-Valley High School in Healy.

Army Staff Sgt. Jeremy S. Mutart graduated from the U.S. Army Air Assault School at Fort Campbell, Ky. The 10-day course includes instruction in air assault techniques and procedures, and qualifies soldiers to wear the coveted Air Assault Badge.

Prerequisites for candidates include passing a thorough inspection and must complete a rigorous 9-obstacle course to assess a students' upper body strength, agility, endurance, confidence and ability to perform at heights without displaying fear or distress; trek a12-mile foot march; and rappel from a 45-foot tower.

Mutart is a squad leader assigned to the 1st Battalion, 28th Infantry, Fort Riley, Junction City, Kan.

He is the son of Veta R. Mutart of Ketchikan and a 1998 graduate of Ketchikan High School.
