USPHS honors SEARHC's Sanchez
The U.S. Public Health Service has honored CDR Carrissa Sanchez, the senior nurse manager for contract health case management with the SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium, with the PHS Citation.

The PHS Citation recognizes CDR Sanchez for her "sustained quality performance of administrative duties with the SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium in Sitka from July 2005 to June 2006."

Based at SEARHC Mt. Edgecumbe Hospital in Sitka, CDR Sanchez oversees the consortiumwide contract health case management and referred care program.

These programs help patients navigate the Native health care system from village clinics to SEARHC's regional hospital in Sitka, and even on to the Alaska Native Medical Center in Anchorage or other facilities.

The management of "these activities were of such importance that judgmental failure would cause delay in delivery of health care services by others and could seriously affect the health status of Indian Health Service patients," according to the citation's justification statement.

"Her dedication to 'getting the job done right' has brought her well-deserved recognition by her peers and management." In March 2006, CDR Sanchez was honored by medical services staff with an Outstanding Leadership Award.
