AEL&P ends surplus sales to duel fuel customers
Alaska Electric Light and Power Company ended surplus sales Oct. 30 for Greens Creek Mine and customers using electric service for dual fuel heating systems because surplus energy is no longer available.

The lakes are full, but due to cold weather in the watersheds of the high lake reservoirs, inflows into these lakes no longer keep up with what Juneau needs for its electrical requirements. This water is reserved for non-interruptible customers.

There are currently 113 dual fuel customers, including 98 residential customers, several schools and university buildings, affected by this curtailment. They will revert to their oil systems until AEL&P determines that surplus energy is again available.
