Heathside Books evens for November include: Book reading and signing on Nov. 8 at 11 a.m. with John Straley, author of "The Big Both Ways," at the Nugget Mall Hearthside Books; holiday event Nov. 9 at 6 p.m. at the Nugget Mall with refreshments, live music and local author signings. Confirmed authors include: Jim King, Mark Kelley, John Straley, Nick Jans, Richard and Nora Marks Dauenhauer, Jeff Brown and Alexander Dolitsky.

The Alaska Vocational Institute will be starting a 20-week office and computer skills training beginning Nov. 10. This full-time training prepares clients for entry-level work in office occupations. Free computer classes at The Learning Connection. Introduction to Microsoft Word 2007 on Mondays and Wednesdays, starts Nov. 3 and ends Nov. 26; Introduction to Microsoft Excel 2007 on Tuesdays and Thursdays, starts Nov. 4 and ends Nov. 25. JDHS Theatre will perform "Auntie Mame," a two act comedy written by Jerome Lawrence & Robert E. Lee, at 7pm in the Juneau-Douglas High School auditorium on Nov. 7, 8, 14, & 15. Tickets will be sold about 2 weeks before the show at Hearthside Books and JDHS activities office. The price of the tickets bought early will be $8 for adults and $6 for K/students/seniors. The tickets will cost $2 more at the door. The play is designed, produced, and directed by Michaela Moore & Lucas Hoiland, the same team that brought the community Les Miserables, Into the Woods and MASH.

Learn to Ice Skate with the Juneau Skating Club. Our second session of the year begins Nov. 7. Classes meet one time per week for six weeks. Group lessons meet either Friday nights 6:30-7:30 pm or Saturday mornings 11:45 am -12:45 pm.kills classes start Sunday November 9 at 10:30 am. Southeast Artworks in the Nugget Mall Presents Robert Bateman, Wildlife Artist, on Nov. 11 from 4-8pm with a 6:30pm lecture. Limited edition prints, limited edition canvasses, and special edition posters available for purchase and signing.

Anchorage Artist Sheila Wyne is an acclaimed and distinguished artist and she will present an illustrated lecture of her work and her life as an artist at UAS on Tuesday, November 11 at 11:30 (to 1pm), Egan Lecture Hall. This presentation is free and open to the public.will be in Juneau to install an interior public artwork at Thunder Mountain High School next week. She just installed an exterior public artwork at Floyd Dryden (two weeks ago) and is returning to Juneau to install an interior artwork at Thunder Mountain High School. Juneau Community Schools announces it's November Open Gym Schedule. All open gyms are held at Thunder Mountain High School from 6:30-8:30pm. Cost is $3.00 per person per session. Sessions are as follows: Nov. 9, 12, 16, 19, 20, 23, 26 and 30. For more information please call 780-2075. Community Schools has court rentals available on Saturdays from 9:00am to 1:00pm at DZMS.
