Shoefly is holding an opening reception for local artist Barbara Craver from 4:30-7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3, at part of the monthly downtown First Friday Art Walk. The collection of new work is titled "Outdoors/Indoors" and features images of exterior and interior Juneau landscapes.

Craver has been painting professionally for seven years. A founding member of the Plein Rein Painters of Juneau, she specializes in pastels and acrylics. Trips with Plein Rein to Italy in 2002 and Turkey in 2006 have inspired her to look at Juneau with fresh eyes to find images for paintings.

The landscape is one of her favorite subjects, as well as portraits and figures. Each painting is the result of a creative process, which cannot be controlled or predicted. The pleasure of seeing a lovely line or the subtle weaving together of colors in a shape, keep the process fresh and interesting. Other artists spark new ideas and possibilities.

The creative process and the satisfactions and challenges of continuing to grow as an artist are consistent sources of energy and excitement for Craver.

Shoefly is located at 255 Marine Way in downtown Juneau between Paradise Café and Taku Harley.
