Woman wins car in sweepstakes

  Raydene Garrison
A chance almost forgotten turned into a new car for one Juneau resident.

Raydene Garrison recently was notified that she won a 2007 Chrysler Sebring in the "Ask Dr. Z" Dream Car Sweepstakes from DaimlerChrysler.

She was one of nine winners from across the country who was selected from more than 24,000 entrants, according to DaimlerChrysler.

Garrison said it began when she was listening to the radio on her way to work heard about the contest at Mendenhall Auto Center.

She went to the dealership with her husband and had her heart set on a BMW convertible.

"I have two kids in college and all I could think of was tuition bills," Garrison said.

Saying no to buying the convertible, Garrison asked for two entry forms, one for her and one for her husband, for the sweepstakes.

To enter the contest, participants must go online and enter the number from the card they were given.

Garrison said her husband forgot about making an entry for them both until about the day before the deadline.

Weeks later Garrison was notified by e-mail that she had won a vehicle.

After calling Mendenhall Auto and tracing the e-mails, Garrison said the claim looked legitimate.

"Things were kind of checking out," Garrison said.

"It took a while to believe it. It's been quite a shock. I'll really be excited when I get the car."

She said her husband has teased her for winning the car since he entered the contest on her behalf.

"If he's good he'll get to ride in it," Garrison said with a smile.

While the BMW convertible that brought her to the car dealership is still a fun thought, Garrison said she is happy with her win and to have been given the opportunity through Mendenhall Auto.

"I love that little BMW. But this is good and the Sebring looks like it's going to be a nice car," Garrison said.

"I've never won anything that big, and I think we'll have to sell a car just to make room for it."
