Photo: Saturday of service
University of Alaska Southeast students celebrated the 100th birthday of Tongass National Forest by spending four hours clearing brush from pathways. These students are part of the National Student Exchange program and were led by UAS staff member Marsha Squires. This was part of a new program "Saturdays of Service," in which UAS students give back to their community. Volunteers included, from left, Ben Young, Marsha Squires, Dave Pete, Ben Tost and Sam Braband. The men are exchange students in Juneau for a semester or year from Wisconsin, Oregon, Pennsylvania and Iowa. Not pictured is Caitlin Pendergast, a freshman nursing student from Alaska.
