Fishing Vessel training offered

AMSEA is conducting a one-day Fishing Vessel Drill Conductor Training Course in Juneau, Alaska on Nov. 15, 2013 from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. This course meets the U.S. Coast Guard drill conductor requirements for fishing vessels and includes an in-water practicum.

Course instructors, Neil Nickerson and Scott Wilwert, will cover these topics:

• Cold water survival skills

• EPIRBs, flares, and maydays

• Man overboard recovery

• Fire fighting

• Immersion suits and PFDs

• Emergency drills

• Helicopter rescue

• Life rafts

• Abandon ship procedures

The cost is $95 for commercial fishermen (after an $80 scholarship from DCCED and NIOSH) and $175 for all others. All mariners are welcome.

The course will be conducted at 1415 Harbor Way in the University of Alaska Southeast Technical Education Center (UAS-TEC), Room 212. Register online at www.amsea.org or call (907) 747-3287.
