Valley Toastmasters hosted Taku Toastmasters in an area-wide speech competition in two categories, humorous speech and table topics, in preparation for the Yukon-Alaska Council of Toastmasters Laugh Out Loud conference to be held in Anchorage Oct. 24-26.
Competing in the humorous speech contest were the winners from the club contests, Valley Toastmaster John Tucker and Taku Toastmaster Brenda Hewitt. Table Topics, a classic event at most weekly meetings used to enhance a member's ability to do extemporaneous speaking, had two club winning participants as well, Richard Pratt of Taku Toastmasters against Don Reid of the Valley Club. Hewitt and Pratt both won the area competition in their divisions. Shown above are, from left, Brenda Hewitt, Jim Donaghe, Justine Bishop and Richard Pratt.
