Ducks Unlimited banquet to be held Saturday evening
The local Juneau chapter of Ducks Unlimited is raising money for wetland conservation and having fun doing it.

The annual Ducks Unlimited banquet will be held starting at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, at Centennial Hall with advance ticket sales only. The event is the groups largest fundraiser for the year, and money goes to the national organization for wetland conservation efforts to preserve the habitat for hundreds of species, said co-chair Mike Allison.

"This isn't to make more ducks so hunters can shoot them," Allison said.

Last year's event saw more than 150 people and raised more than $20,000.

"Juneau is real generous that way," Allison said.

The event features a prime rib dinner, door prizes and raffles. New to the event this year is a duck calling contest. Entry fee is $20.

"If there's anybody who's interested in it, they should bring out their calls and see what they've got," said co-chair Becky Allison. "Hopefully this will be the birth of a brand new thing. It's open to all ages."
