Photos: Sitka Black-Tailed Does Up Close

"I shot two deer this morning, both does. I used a fully automatic Canon 1D Mark III," wrote photographer Jay Beedle, of Shelter Island, on Sept. 29. "It was a lot of fun sneaking up on the Sitka black-tailed deer as they worked their way through the forest eating a little here and there.

"When they became aware that I was nearby they stopped and watched me for a while (that's when I shot them both). What a great hunt - two deer, pictures for a lifetime, and great memories with no hard pack out of the woods and hours of work processing the meat. Two deer alive and well - hopefully they will make it through the doe hunting season, and have fawns next year."

These photos were taken Sept. 29 on Admiralty Island.
