What is your definition of success?

My definition of success is to win the respect of those around me and the affection from my children.

What special challenges or advantages have you faced because you're a woman?

A lot of people can't see a woman putting up a tent, backing up a trailer or moving 200 chairs inside for an event, so I consider it a challenge. However, it is also an advantage when men ask if they can help.

How did you get started in this business?

I began working in event planning in 2000. I left my full-time position with the State to stay at home with my children. After realizing that there was a need not only in Juneau, but all of Southeast Alaska for party equipment rentals, we began adding tables and chairs to our inventory. We actually stored them in our garage for a while and then had to get a couple of storage units for our growing business. We just seemed to keep adding inventory and now we are moving into a new warehouse to accommodate all of our rental equipment. We rent everything from tents, tables and chairs, china and serving equipment to linens and colored table toppers, lighting and wedding decorations. We ship to cities all over Southeast Alaska and we are also planning a Business Expo in Anchorage this month. We have helped entertain guests in Juneau and those coming into town on the cruise ships. We have also worked on a variety of corporate events that bring a lot of business to the community of Juneau.
