Runners hit the trail at the start of the 14th annual Running of the Boots held Sept. 27 in Sitka. Participants wear rubber boots, usually XTRATUFS (also known as Sitka Sneakers). Runners also wear costumes during the event, which this year served as a fundraiser for the Sitka Farmers Market project that was one of the priority projects from May's Sitka Health Summit. The Running of the Boots was part of the Greater Sitka Chamber of Commerce's Season's End Celebration, which included a free lunch Saturday for Sitka residents provided by the Alaska Cruise Association and local fisherman and processors.
