Operation Christmas Child kicks off Oct. 10

JUNEAU - Juneau residents hope to collect 2,435 shoebox gifts this year for needy children around the world through the Operation Christmas Child project

Juneau Operation Christmas Child volunteers will pass out boxes on Saturday, Oct. 10 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at Chapel by the Lake.

Kids and families pack empty shoeboxes with simple items most people take for granted, such as toothpaste, toys and school supplies. The shoe boxes are then hand-delivered to needy children around the world using whatever means necessary - sea containers, trucks, trains, airplanes, helicopters, boats, camels, even dog sleds.
