Dick Benedict to show artwork on First Friday
The first artist to open an exhibit in the new gallery at Juneau Arts & Culture Center (the old Armory building), is Dick Benedict with his show "Solid as Dust".

The public is invited to an opening reception, Friday, October 5, 4:30-7:00 pm at the Juneau Arts and Humanities Gallery, now located at 350 Whittier Street.

"A few of these pictures began as tourist sale attempts, from travel magazine photos, but got altered by mental forces," Benedict explains.

"The rest began as conformist art, attempts at conforming to remembered fragments that went off the tracks and months later evolved into something else."

Dick Benedict was born in Seattle, grew up in Des Moines Washington and eventually moved to Juneau in 1971. He started painting with acrylics in the '70's, oils in the '80's and has painted with oils + egg tempera since the '90's.
