Newlun joins SE Senior Services staff in Yakutat

YAKUTAT - Southeast Senior Services welcomes Marianne Newlun as the new site manager and cook for the Yakutat Senior Center. She began work in late August shortly after completing a week of training in Juneau on food protection, senior nutrition, and senior center management.

Newlun has lived in Yakutat for 20 years. She has a wide variety of experience, including substitute teaching, taxi driving (including many Yakutat seniors), cooking for a large number of people, and managing her own business. Newlun conveys warmth, caring, and understanding toward seniors and a genuine desire to work on their behalf.

All people age 60 and over are invited to come to the Yakutat Senior Center for lunch each weekday at noon. Each meal consists of the main dish, a salad, a hot vegetable, bread, rice or noodles, milk and a dessert. Home-delivered meals are available for those elders who are unable to come to the Senior Center for lunch. Financial support for these meals is made possible by the Yakutat Tlingit Tribe, Tlingit-Haida Regional Housing Authority, the State of Alaska, and community donors.

For further information, contact the Yakutat Senior Center at 784-3468.
