Charter school presents Inupiaq play
The Juneau Community Charter School students will present "The Boy Who Found The Light" on Thursday, Sept. 29, at 7 p.m. in the Cathedral of the Nativity (St. Ann's) Parish Hall. The performance is free and open to everyone.

The play, based on an Inupiaq tale adapted by Ryan Conarro from a story written by Dale DeArmond, includes Native dance choreographed by Eskimo dancer Mattox Ayav Metcalf, and music recorded by Pamyua, an Alaska Native contemporary music group.

Students created their masks and sets in art class, learned several Inupiaq words, and discussed aspects of Inupiaq culture in preparation for the play.

All students from kindergarten through sixth grade will perform.

The play is directed by Ryan Conarro, a freelance actor-director-educator who is working with Charter School students as part of the Artists in Schools program of the Alaska State Council on the Arts.
