Anti-tobacco program continues
Beverly Wooley, director of the Division of Public Health, will be making a formal presentation of the first five K-12 Tobacco Prevention School Grants at a reception to be held Sept. 20 at the Residence Inn Marriott. Representatives of the five school districts will be on-hand to accept the grants. The five inaugural grants are going to Juneau School District, Kashunamiut School District, Lake and Peninsula School District, Nome Public Schools, Sitka School District and Yukon-Koyukuk School District.
The reception is on the second day of the School Wellness Institute. The institute is three days of training on topics such as school health programs, nutrition, and physical activity. This free program is open to school board members, administrators, teachers, school nurses and the community. For more information on the institute contact Patty Owen at (907) 465-2768. Events take place Sept. 19-21 with formal grant presentation on Sept. 20 at 5 p.m. Both events are held at the Residence Inn Marriott, 1025 E. 35th Ave., Anchorage.
