Northern Light United Church welcomes new pastor

The Rev. Dr. Phil Campbell of Denver, Colorado has been selected to serve as pastor for the Northern Light United Church.

Dr. Campbell comes to Juneau from Iliff School of Theology in Denver, where he has served as the Director of Ministry Studies and Director of the Master of Arts in Social Change, a position he has held since July 2005. He holds a Bachelor of Arts from Phillips University in Oklahoma, a Master of Divinity from Iliff School of Theology, and a Doctor of Ministry from Pacific School of Religion. Prior to his service at Iliff, Dr. Campbell served as pastor of Park Hill Congregational Church, UCC, in Denver from 1989-2005. He has also served as a university chaplain and a youth director. He has experience in increasing the attendance and financial giving of his prior congregations as well as multicultural/multiracial experience and significant work in social justice and community issues.

"I am excited by Northern Light's commitment to cultural diversity and Native Ministries, its support for youth ministries, and its desire to be a church for all ages - children, youth, and adults," said Dr. Campbell. "I believe in the Pentecost vision that calls the church to be a diverse community where all persons of all cultures and ages are welcomed and invited to use their gifts to build up the body of Christ and to further God's work of peace and justice in the world."

Campbell succeeds Kim Poole who served this past year as interim pastor. Northern Light United Church is located at the corner of 11th and A Streets and welcomes all. For more information, call 586-3131 or see www.northernlightchurch.org.
