Alaska women veterans coordinator appointed
CAMP DENALI, Alaska - Brig. Gen. Deborah C. McManus, assistant adjutant general of the Alaska Air National Guard, is now the new Alaska's women veterans coordinator.

Lt. Gen. Craig E. Campbell, adjutant general of the Alaska National Guard and commissioner of the Department of Military & Veterans Affairs, appointed McManus to the new post on Aug. 27.

"Brig. Gen. McManus has a proven leadership record and an unwavering dedication to the Guard since she enlisted in the Washington, D.C., Air National Guard in 1981," Campbell said. "She knows what issues are facing Alaska's veterans and women in particular, and she will be an ardent supporter for them."

McManus will work with the Alaska Veterans Office to raise awareness and advocate for the nearly 8,000 female veterans in Alaska.

"I am honored to be able to serve the women veterans of Alaska and help promote the issues that will best support them," McManus said.

McManus has served during a variety of overseas deployments to include Operation Northern Watch in Turkey, Operation Southern Watch in Kuwait, and most recently, Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2005.
