Byways grants awarded to Alaska
U.S. Department of Transportation
The U.S. Department of Transportation approved Scenic Byway grants to eight projects intended to improve amenities for visitor sites, state highways and the Alaska Marine Highway System.

The grants total $486,450.

The funds come from the Federal Highway Administration's National Scenic Byways Program, and are restricted to projects such as scenic overlooks, visitor information centers, pedestrian trails, bike paths, and educational and promotional materials.

The projects funded in 2006 included a City and Borough of Juneau plan to develop brochures and signage for the Auke Lake and Indian Point Coast Trail system.

The grant amount is $75,000.

Since 1993 Alaska has received almost $6 million in federal grants for 47 projects throughout the state.
