The POWIAP Amendment affects approximately 6,439 acres of both state-owned and state-selected uplands and over 1 million acres of tide and submerged lands, which extend out to three miles from the coast. The amendment assigns land use designations to areas of state land.
It also prescribes management guidelines as well as specific unit requirements. The PRD can be viewed online at: www.dnr.state.ak.us/mlw/planning/index.htm.
The PRD is available on CD and printed versions will be available for review at City Halls and libraries at Craig, Klawock, Hydaburg and Juneau.
The Department has scheduled public meetings to discuss the PRD and we encourage the public and other interested parties to attend one of the meetings at:
Hydaburg City Council Chambers from noon-1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12.
Craig City Council Chambers from 5-6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12.
To receive full consideration, comments on the PRD must be received by DNR before 5 p.m. Oct. 17. Include the unit numbers and/or page numbers that are associated with your comment.
