Murder, suicide strikes Petersburg
PETERSBURG - The quiet fishing community of Petersburg recorded just its third murder in 50 years on Friday when Peter Baron, 44, shot his former employer before turning the gun on himself.

Petersburg police identified the victim as Helen Shear, 40, fellow resident and former employer Helen Shear, 40, who used to own B & G Heated Mini Storage, according to the Associated Press.

According to reports, witnesses say Baron shot Shear "without warning" in the business' driveway using a 12-gauge shotgun. Baron then put the weapon to his head and pulled the trigger.

Baron ran the storage facility, which was owned by Shear and her ex-husband, Guy Bartlett, while the couple was out of state. Baron's employment was terminated when the couple returned last spring.

Petersburg Police Chief Dale Stone ruled out robbery or theft as a motive and said drugs or alcohol were ruled out as factors leading up to the murder, according to reports.
