Taku Toastmasters earn Distinguished Club award
JUNEAU - Taku Toastmasters recently received the 2008 Distinguished Club award from Toastmasters International. This award was presented to the club for outstanding achievements in education, membership and communication.

Justine Bishop, area governor, presented the award and performed the induction ceremony for the new officers on Aug. 18. The new officers for 2008-09 are: Mark Lukey, president; Jean McBrien, vice president of education; Jo Dawson, vice president of membership; Brenda Hewitt, vice president of public relations; Katharine Heumann, secretary; Richard Pratt, treasurer; and Bob Price, sergeant at arms.

The mission of the Toastmasters club is to provide a mutually supportive and positive learning environment in which every individual member has the opportunity to develop oral communication and leadership skills, which in turn foster self-confidence and personal growth. Taku Toastmasters meets weekly on Mondays at noon in the Federal Building in the Dept. of Forestry conference room on the fifth floor. The meetings are open to anyone.
