Arts council kicks off concert season with gypsy jazz performer
The Juneau Arts & Humanities Council's concert season will begin in dramatic fashion with the gypsy jazz of the John Jorgenson Quintet. The quintet will perform at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 13.

Known as one of the pioneers of the gypsy jazz movement in America, John Jorgenson was a member of the Desert Rose Band and the Hellecasters, and was a six-year member of Elton John's band. He was also asked to recreate the music of renowned jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt for two feature films, "Gattica" and "Head in the Clouds." Jorgenson plays the clarinet as well as the guitar, and performs his own compositions in addition to standards.
