Voices for Recover and Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services Administration will hold its second annual poetry slam from 7-9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, at University of Alaska Southeast campus in the Hendrickson Building Room 113. This year's poetry reading and competition is in recognition of National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month. The theme this year is "Celebrating the Spirit of Recovery." There will be reading, competition and snacks. Original poetry submissions in the words of people in recovery and those who support drug and alcohol recovery are welcome. Cash prizes will be given for first, second and third place winners. A poetry slam is a competition at which poets read or recite original works. These performances are the judged on a numeric scale by previously selected members of the audience.
