Double Vision
The Gold Town Nickelodeon will be offering up a double header this weekend with two new films. The gritty documentary "Restrepo" chronicles a year in the life of U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan, and "Ashes of American Flags: Wilco Live," follows the hip band on its 2008 tour.
On Wednesday, September 1, the free Recovery Film Festival starts at the Gold Town with a showing of "My Name is Bill W.," the biopic about the founder of Alcoholics Anonymous. The festival will continue every Wednesday through the month of September.

Sail Away with the Symphony
Set sail on a musical voyage on the Juneau Symphony's Wildlife Cruise this weekend for a delightful afternoon of wildlife watching, food and live music. The boat launches from the Don Statter Public Boat Harbor in Auke Bay September 4 at 1:45 p.m. Space is limited, and tickets are available for $50 at Hearthside Books and the JACC. Music Fest at 1800 Feet
The Mountain Music Fest is coming to the Chilkat Theatre at the Mt. Roberts Tramway this Friday, with a huge lineup of performers including Know When to Quit, The Romantic Highlanders, Machakos Family Band, Dale Wygant, The Alaska String Band, Dan Kirkwood and Libby Sterling.
When a local person takes an out-of-town guest of theirs to the mountain for the purpose of the Mountain Music Fest, that guest is also under the umbrella of the $10 special rate, no matter where they live. "Normal" tourists will pay normal Tram rate. The festival will be held Friday, September 3 from 6-10 p.m. For more information, call 463-5413.
