"CBJ employees are incredible," said City Manager Kim Kiefer. "They work hard day in and day out around the clock to make sure that city services are provided in a way that is reliable, efficient, and in many cases, invisible to our citizens. It is a good thing when people don't stop to think about the quality of their drinking water, the crime rate, or the cleanliness of a community park; that means we are doing a good job." Kiefer, herself a 30+ year veteran of city service, went on to add, "For me, public service has been a rewarding career choice. I believe most of our employees feel that way as well. It is one of the reasons CBJ is a great place to work."
The City and Borough of Juneau provides a diverse set of programs and services to the community, employing approximately 950 people in a wide variety of administrative, technical and professional areas. In addition to the types of job opportunities you might expect in most organizations; Information Technology, Accounting, Human Resources, Administrative Management, CBJ also employs Heavy Equipment Operators, Engineers/Architects, Community Planners, Librarians, Lifeguards, Assessors, Ski Instructors, Nurses, Building Inspectors, Police Officers, Firefighters, Ski Lift Operators, Cooks, and Airport Managers to name just a few of the many interesting career opportunities available.
As an organization, CBJ values the efforts of employees and works hard to assure that staff can come to work in an environment that allows them to give their best efforts to the community. To that end, CBJ invests in employee training at all levels of the organization, has competitive wages and benefits, has innovative workforce policies, and provides an employee Wellness program that helps assure a better quality of life for employees and their families while keeping the total cost of providing health care benefits below the norm for our area. CBJ conducts an annual survey that asks employees what the organization can do to improve their ability to give their best efforts at work. Last year, 66% of our employees reported that they "enjoy coming to work" to a great, or very great extent.
When asked about why they enjoy working for the City, CBJ employees are likely to point out the pride they feel in providing valued services to their friends and neighbors. Whether it is the nuts and bolts of processing wastewater so it can be discharged into our clean waterways, keeping the streets cleared so people can commute to work safely, or anticipating community needs into the future, CBJ employees see the direct benefit of their efforts on a daily basis. It is great to work for an organization where the results of your hard efforts are visible on a daily basis. See how you can join the CBJ team by going to Juneau.org/personnel/jobs.php
