Parnell proposes ANWR Land Swap
FAIRBANKS - Lieutenant Governor Sean Parnell proposed last week an innovative approach to opening the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) to development.

"We not only need a new messenger in Congress to deliver Alaska's message to open ANWR, we need to consider a new approach," said Sean Parnell during a press conference in Fairbanks. " I propose a land swap of 2,000 acres of state land to the federal government in exchange for 2,000 acres of the coastal plain in ANWR into state hands."

Governor Palin hailed the idea as the kind of new energy and vision Alaska needs in Congress.

"This type of innovative approach to opening ANWR is exactly what we need if we are going to prove that we are listening to concerns but determined to help the nation during this energy crisis," said Governor Palin. "We would definitely consider a land swap such as the one proposed."
