Juneau student wins CHARR scholarship
JUNEAU - A local student was selected from dozens of applicants across Alaska for scholarship support from the Alaska Cabaret, Hotel, Restaurant and Retailers Association (Alaska CHARR) education fund.

Juneau student Christopher Brown was among the 16 Alaska students who received funding for their educations through the association's annual scholarship awards program, which disbursed $20,000 for the fall 2008 academic term. Scholarships are awarded to students who are pursuing careers in the hospitality industry; funds are raised through the annual Charles H. Selman Golf Tournament in Anchorage and private donations.

Christopher Brown will begin studies at the Culinary Institute of America this winter, where he will pursue a bachelor's degree in baking and pastry arts management. He was awarded $1,000 to use toward that goal. In application materials, Brown expressed his goal to open a bakery or pastry shop in Alaska upon graduation. Brown is a 2008 graduate of Juneau-Douglas High School.
