Auditions for Juneau Lyric Opera productions
JUNEAU - The Juneau Lyric Opera Company will be holding auditions for its 2009 productions of Gilbert & Sullivan's "The Mikado" and Mozart's "The Marriage of Figaro" Sept. 13-14 at Resurrection Lutheran Church.

Singers/actors are invited to audition for roles in either or both productions. First auditions will be held Sept. 13 and the early afternoon of Sept. 14 with callbacks later that day. For the initial audition, singers are encouraged, but not required, to perform a piece of their choice from one of the productions. If you prefer, you may sing a song or aria of your choice.

JLO anticipates that Mikado and Marriage will be breakthrough productions. Mikado will be directed by Hal Ryder, a theater professor at Cornish College of the Arts of Seattle who has directed over 120 shows all over the world. Marriage will be directed by Paul Shipper, who has sung in several JLO productions, is co-director of Bottom's Dreams Theater Co. in New York. Both directors are being flown to Juneau for these auditions.

To sign up for an audition time, please log on to www.juneaulyricopera.wikispaces.com/auditions. You may also call JLO to sign up or to request copies of portions of the musical score. JLO can be reached at 596-ARIA or info@juneauopera.org. More information on the productions, including roles, can be found at www.juneauopera.org.

Singers who are not in Juneau that weekend may request an alternative audition date, but must provide a CD or cassette tape of appropriate material 3 to 6 minutes in length by the audition date. However, since Mssrs. Ryder and Shipper will be in town for only that weekend, all are strongly encouraged to audition on those dates if at all possible.
