JUNEAU - Juneau-based Huna Totem Corporation has hired Lawrence R. Gaffaney, 46, as Chief Executive Officer. Gaffaney started in his new position Aug. 13.
Gaffaney was Managing Partner and CEO of New York-based Saint George Capital, Inc., a private equity firm which focused on acquisition and management of real estate in Silicon Valley. In this role he was chiefly responsible for raising equity, sourcing deals, financing debt, and driving operational improvements in the managed assets.
Prior to Saint George he held several management positions during his 12 years with investment bank J.P. Morgan, including the lead for the Asian-Pacific Financial Sponsor Group, Vice President-Natural Resources, and Vice-President-Global Mining and Metals. Under Gaffaney's leadership, J.P Morgan led many award-winning buyouts in South Korea, Hong Kong, Japan and Australia.
Born and raised in San Jose, Calif., he holds a Master's degree in finance from New York University Stern School of Business and a Bachelor's degree in business administration finance from San Jose State University.
Huna Totem Corporation is the Alaska Native village corporation owned by approximately 1300 shareholders with ancestral ties to Hoonah. The company's largest operation is Hoonah-based Icy Strait Point tourism operation which boasts more than 90 percent local hire.
