Alaska Municipal League appoints Wasserman
The Alaska Municipal League, the leading organization on local government in Alaska, recently selected Kathie Wasserman, former AML Deputy Director, as the new Executive Director. Wasserman replaces former AML Executive Director Kevin Ritchie following the announcement of his retirement in May.

Wasserman began working for AML in July 2004 as the League's Policy and Program Coordinator. In September 2005 she was promoted to Member Services Coordinator and then to Deputy Director in October that same year. Wasserman's quick move up the ladder characterizes the leadership, devotion and fortitude that she brings to the Executive Director position.

"I plan to re-energize AML membership toward furthering our goal to help communities succeed," says Wasserman. "Kevin's leadership will be greatly missed, but we will continue to support Alaska's community leaders in their duties as part of the legacy he [Ritchie] brought to AML."

Prior to working at AML, Wasserman held several distinguished positions across Alaska. Most recently, she served two terms as the Mayor/City Administrator for the City of Pelican.

Her services as Mayor of Pelican, dedication to helping Alaska's communities and numerous career accomplishments helped the AML Board of Directors finalize their decision after a three month application process that included a field of applicants from across the U.S. and Alaska.
