First Presbyterian of Skagway thanks JCF

Dear Editor,

The First Presbyterian Church of Skagway, Alaska would like to publicly express our appreciation for the efforts of the Juneau Community Foundation and in particular, our heartfelt thanks for the financial support we were awarded through the Margaret Frans Brady Foundation. The entry to our church sanctuary was in dire need of repair, as the concrete steps leading into the church have sunken over the years, leaving the steps awkward and unsafe. It is only through the support of philanthropic organizations, such as this, that we were able to embark on such an endeavor without exhausting our reserves.

Our mission statement reads, "As Children of God we embrace our call to share the Good News of the Gospel through worship, fellowship and open doors, providing a nurturing environment as we grow in Christ and minister to our greater community." We have the privilege of partnering with organizations such as Southeast Senior Services and the Skagway Arts Council for example, as we pursue this mission. We are thankful that JCF and the administrators of the Margaret Frans Brady Foundation saw a good fit between their goals and ours. Our hope would be that other members of the regional community would see the value in the JCF mission to promote philanthropy and respond to community needs by creating a healthy, safe and culturally rich environment, much as we are doing in Skagway.

With much thanksgiving,

Jan Marie Tronrud

Clerk of Session, FPC, Skagway, AK
