Dorota Sawlcka (from Poland), Irina Kanchera (from Bulgaria), Rochelle Spaulding (from the Phillipines), and Saliha Mert (from Turkey) sort salmon inside Petersburg's Icicle Seafoods plant. A number of workers from outside the United States spend their summers working the long hours of the processing plants. The money and experience, both something that is beyond compare in their home nations, make up for the sweat. Some foreigners pay over $4000 (air fare plus an employment agency) just to arrive for work.
