Mobile mammogram van in Hoonah Aug. 18-24

HOONAH - The mobile mammogram van will visit Hoonah on Tuesday, Aug. 18, with appointments running through Monday, Aug. 24 (no weekend appointments). This year the van has been updated with digital imaging on board instead of film.

Women wanting to schedule a mammogram should call Sandy Howard of the Hoonah Medical Center at 945-3235. Women who aren't due for a screening for a couple of months also should call, because it's possible the mobile mammogram van might be able to fit you in for an exam.

All women will need to arrange to have a current clinical breast exam (done within the past six months). If you have not had a current breast exam since March, you will need to arrange to have one before you schedule your mammogram. If you also are due for your women's health exam, including your Pap test and heart health screening, please let Sandy at the Hoonah Medical Center know so sufficient time is scheduled for you to have this done.

The SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium (SEARHC) WISEWOMAN Women's Health Program provides free clinical breast exams, mammograms and cardiovascular health screening for all women ages 40-64 who meet income and insurance guidelines. To find out if you qualify, contact the SEARHC WISEWOMAN Women's Health Program at 966-8782 in Sitka or 1-888-388-8782 toll-free in Alaska.

The mobile mammography program is run through a partnership between Bartlett Regional Hospital and the SEARHC WISEWOMAN Women's Health Program.
