Juneau improv artists to perform at Hawaiian theater festival

JUNEAU - Juneau theater company, Morally Improv-erished has accepted an invitation to perform "An Improbable Act" at Improvaganza! - the Hawaii Festival of Improvisational Theater. This marks the first time an improvisational theater company from Alaska has been invited to perform at a national festival. Improvaganza! - now in its sixth year - will feature performers from nine states with show themes as diverse as the Vietnam War, couples therapy, futuristic sci-fi and an 80s band revival.

The premise of "An Improbable Act" begins with the cast performing a staged reading of the first page of an unproduced script, then expanding the work into an improvised one-act play. At Improvaganza! the company will be collaborating with noted Hawaiian playwright Tony Apostol.

Longtime members Sharon Early, Mike Christenson, and Eric Caldwell (the company's producer) will be joined by Heather LaVerne, incoming director of UAS Improv, for the festival.

Morally Improv-erished is actively fundraising for this trip and recently received a $500 catalyst grant from the Juneau Arts & Humanities Council in support of this performance. To learn more about Morally Improv-erished, visit www.razoo.com/morallyimproverished.
