Do you have a kindergarten-age child?
Kindergarten students are 5-years-old by Sept. 1, according to Alaska State Law. Register as soon as you can. Fall registration for all elementary schools began Aug. 9. If you were unable to register in April or in early August, please contact your neighborhood school as soon as possible for registration assistance. Bring records of your child's immunizations, and their birth certificate. A physical examination by your physician will be necessary. Talk to your school nurse.

Be familiar with your school office. They can help with many of your questions. Check at your school office for transportation information, routes, and times. Bus service will be provided to school only. Kindergarten parents are required to arrange for transportation after the kindergarten school day has ended.

There will be an adjusted kindergarten schedule in all schools during the first week to accommodate state required "student & parent interviews" or "orientation" to the kindergarten student's new classroom. Check with your school office at registration for details. You will be notified about the date and time of your school entrance -welcome interview with your child's teacher before school starts.

The first day of school for kindergarten is Monday, Aug. 27. Some schools start kindergarten on Wednesday, Aug. 22. Check with your school.

The Juneau School District believes that a strong partnership with parents is an essential element in supporting students to meet with success in school.
