Hunter Information and bowhunter training

JUNEAU - The Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G) is reminding hunters wanting to participate in "archery only" hunts that they must first successfully complete a department approved archery Hunter Education (HE) course (IBEP or equivalent). The HE certified course is now being offered.

The course will take place Aug. 15 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Juneau Hunter Education Facility (JHEF), 5670 Montana Creek Road. The cost is $10.

The course includes classroom instruction and a written test, as well as marksmanship and field courses. Participants need to bring their own bow and arrows, with target or field points, for the shooting portion of the course.

Course registration requires the purchase of an independent study packet at the Douglas office of the ADF&G, room 201 (465-4265), or the JHEF (596-4101). The study modules must be completed prior to the start of the course and brought to the class.
