University of Arizona Press authors Ernestine Hayes and María Meléndez have been named finalists in the 2007 PEN Center USA Literary Award competition. Since 1982, PEN Center USA, a literary and human rights organization affiliated with International PEN, has sponsored this unique literary award competition to recognize outstanding works published by writers who live in the western United States. The 2007 competition saw more than five hundred submissions in ten categories. Having two authors recognized by this prestigious organization is a testament to the quality of work published by the University of Arizona Press.
The University of Arizona Press, founded in 1959, is a nonprofit publisher of about 50 books each year, with almost 800 books in print. Publications include scholarly and trade titles in Native American and Latin studies and space sciences.
