The first section of the rebuilt Raven Trail has opened in Petersburg.
Raven Trail, located near the town airport is heavily used by local residents but had been poorly maintained.
The U.S. Forest Service, in an emailed announcement, said it worked with landowners to move the trailhead and build a half-mile of wheelchair-accessible trail near Sandy Beach Recreation Area.
Further improvements are in the design and planning stages, and the project's ultimate goal is to rebuild four miles of trail to the Raven's Roost cabin. Another half-mile of wheelchair-accessible trail will be built, as will three miles of single-track hiking trail.
